Advancing knowledge is an integral part of human civilization. But people may not always agree on each other’s ideas because of their diverse beliefs, cultures, backgrounds, personal experiences, etc. Research is a process of generating and disseminating knowledge. Through research, scholars can build new knowledge based on previous ones. And the systemic research methods, through qualitative, quantitive, or mixed approaches, allow the public to understand and accept this newly created knowledge. Although results from research may not hold true forever and could potentially be disproved by other researchers in the future, research with sufficient evidence and well-designed methods can generate information worthy of being acknowledged, applied, and implemented by the rest of society with confidence.
An introduction in a research proposal plays a vital role in grabbing the audience’s attention, and “it sets the stage for the entire project” (Creswell & Creswell, 2017, p. 101). A good introduction needs to include the following components: a research problem, a literature review on the problem, deficiencies in the literature, a target audience, and the purpose of the study (Creswell & Creswell, 2017, p.105). A research problem leading to the study should be first addressed to explain why this topic deserves attention and should be studied. Following the research problem, performing a preliminary literature review on the problem can reveal the deficiencies or gaps in the literature, and therefore address the need for further studies.l Addressing the right audience can help maximize the benefits of this study to reach the right population. Lastly, “a purpose statement that establishes the intent of the entire research study” is “the most important statement in the entire study”, and it needs to be “clear, specific, and informative” (Creswell & Creswell, 2017, p. 117).

Research is important because it is a key component in discovering new information specially in healthcare where discoveries are made constantly. It can help expand your knowledge base and help you to know what you might be up against. Research can also help with becoming better at sifting through low- and high-quality information and the more you do it the more accurate information you will find. If we don't do research, we are forced to rely solely on intuition and blink luck (Why Is Research Important, 2014). Research has helped the pave the way for many fields specially in learning about diseases old and new. When COVID-19 hit, much research was done on where it came from, its symptoms and how to cure it. All the research found helped ways for helping stop the spread of the disease and the manufacture of a vaccine. Without its research we might still be in quarantine with a high covid cases.
An introduction is important in a research proposal because it gives a small insight of what the paper will be about establishing a framework for the research done. It shouldn't be too long, but it should be interesting so that it catches the attention of the reader. The introduction establishes the scope, context and significance of the research being conducted by summarizing current understanding and background information about the topic. It states the purpose of the work in the form of the research problem highlighting the potential outcomes your study can reveal and outlining the remaining structure and organization of the paper.
