Hello All, Teacher commit
Please identify your first three preferred theorists as the subject of your paper and presentation.
Note the instructions above, including the downloadable Word document. Keep in mind that for your initial post, all you only need to do is list your choices this week. You do not need to post a 400-word initial post. However, you need to post a reply to two others in which you are to share resources and links on their selected theorist.
Finally, do not select Greenleaf or McGregor. They are adequately covered in other courses.
Thank you,
Dr. Bredfeldt

7. This author’s first choice of theories is Bernard Bass’ Transformational Leadership. This is a leadership style that this author strives to emulate and promote daily in both professional and personal life. This author’s current profession is as a case manager/career advisor for apprenticeship programs such as plumbing, HVAC, culinary, CNC Machining, IT, and other technical fields. In this capacity, this author proposes a system for the apprentice and the employer where the apprentice learns from a “journey worker” on the job and receives the educational component of their education in a college setting. This mentorship and educational role are important because it produces better-trained employees who have leaders who are invested in the employee’s success. These followers can become the leader and the circle of leadership continues. The leader spends time with the follower encouraging the follower to “continuously develop values and skills to inspire them to be good leaders themselves” (Gill, 2021, para. 2). Many biblical examples involve transformational leadership. One of this author’s favorites is David. He went from a shepherd (1 Samuel 17:34-36) to the king (2 Samuel 5) but he did not make the transformation overnight. He had role models and God leading him along this path. This author’s second choice of theory is Robert Greenleaf’s Servant Leadership. This theory appeals to this author because this is another area that this author strives to emulate. As with transformational leadership servant leadership involves an investment by a leader in the follower’s success. This author firmly believes in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. A follower cannot be expected to be led if their basic needs are not met. Through servant leadership, a leader can get to know their followers and ensure their basic needs are met. The leader will build trust with their follower and in doing so their follower will want to be led by the leader. This concept of servant leadership was seen throughout Old and New Testament scripture and Jesus himself was a servant leader. When this author thinks of conforming to the image of Christ in a Romans 8:29 capacity this author understands the requirement is servant leadership. This author’s third choice of theories is Douglas McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y leadership model. This author knew very little to nothing of this theory until the last term. This author read and wrote a book summary on this theory. This theory is of interest because this author feels that the author’s surface of knowledge on Theory X and Theory Y is far from complete, but this author believes that based on the limited knowledge on the topic the theory could be correct as well. McGregor (2006) points out “The fact that a company is economically successful means, among other things, that management has been able to attract people into the organization and to organize and direct their efforts toward the production and sale of goods or services at a profit” (Ch. 1, para. 7). While this speaks to management specifically the leadership component of Theory X and Y is of great interest to this author. If profit is the goal of a company, the leadership must provide a transformational leadership model combined with servant leadership to attract people into the positions and to keep the followers motivated. Ultimately this author chooses these three theorists in their order because this author strives to emulate the first two and the third one the author wants to know more about. This author believes all three as well as others in the ten theories listed are needed to make the optimal leadership model. A promotional system is needed to keep the leadership circle going and includes a transformational leadership model. A careful understanding of the follower’s needs is important which is met by servant leadership. Theory X and Y are needed given the circumstances. These three models could be connected biblically, and this author’s goal is to learn from the great and not-so-great leaders of the Bible. Hebrews 13:7 says of leadership “remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith” (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996/2004). This is what this author strives to accomplish.
