Concepts of Successful Organizational Communication
Introduction
Communication is a way of life and can never be ignored by an organization that needs to
propel to higher success. There are various communication concepts that are necessary in
establishing effective communication in an organization. The paper is a highlight of some
examples of concepts for successful communication and discussion at length.
The first concept is active listening
o Active listening allows employees to be able to follow instructions that are
presented.
o Most of our days are spent in communication whether in a business setup or
personal life.
o One should apply listening without interruption when a communicator is
speaking.
o It requires that one shows attention to the communicator without disruption from
things around especially the mobile gadgets, staring elsewhere and others
(Gautam & Batra, 2011).
o It is necessary to ask relevant questions while exchanging the conversation.
o Active listener requests clarification where there was broken communication.
o One can breakdown key reason for the communication at the end of the
conversation.
The second is organizational culture
o The organization has a culture that must also be reflected from the communication
delivery.

o To incorporate the culture, the organization must also ensure that there is a
relational way of keeping the communication running.
o Some of factors can be considered for an organizational culture in
communication.
o First there should be consistent in all communication channels that will be used in
delivering the message (Vithessonthi, 2009).
o Secondly, every employee must be able to speak the language of the organization
to the outside.
o Thirdly, communication within the must have element of consistency amongst the
employees.
The third conflict resolution
o When there is a group of individuals within an organization there is usually
conflict.
o One of the leading reason for conflict in an organization is the differences in the
generations.
o There are various generations such as the veterans, Millennials, generation X and
baby boomers who are in many organizations today.
o For the sake of having these groups to work together, then there should be plans
for curtailing the conflicts.
o When a conflict arise, there are also channels that should be used so that to have
the ultimate solution.

o Leadership facilitates success or failure of many communication in many
organization.
o Leader must do what they expect from the subordinates through leading by
example.
o A leader should be able to highlight to the workers on the core reason for the
existence of the organization in a clear way.
o One must be able to have a way of resolution for many misunderstanding that
come through during working (Gautam & Batra, 2011)
o Leaders are also prone to mistake during passing of the information and should be
able to handle to corrections in a professional ways.
o A leader should be consistent in different channels he uses in communication
passing.
The fifth is formal and informal communication
o Every organization has formal and informal way of communication culture.
o One can never be without the other for they complement one another.
o Formal communication involves established channels that are accessible to the
people and strictly used for official passing of information from one to another
(Vithessonthi, 2009).
o Informal communication is used for the normal communication and can also be
used to pass official message.
o When informal communication used in passing official message, it can be
followed by a formal confirmation.

o Consistency in using both for official communication is usually vital for harmony
in communication.
Conclusion
Success of an organization is based on communication that employees apply from
leadership to subordinate to allow effective running of operations. The paper focuses on concepts
such as active listening, organizational culture, conflict resolution, leadership strategies, and
formal and informal communication that are factors of successful communication in an
organization.
