Hello Everyone,

Happy Week 8!

My ethical philosophy would focus on honesty and treating everyone how you would want to be treated. “Those who choose to treat others well deserve good treatment; those who choose to treat others badly deserve ill treatment” (Rachels & Rachels, 2019). Honesty shows that everyone should be truthful of everything that they do, in this case not downloading the app and not paying for the book is dishonest. Everyone should be treated the same, as nobody would want to be treated differently or poorly. I believe the virtue ethics is close to what my ethical philosophy would be, because it is in everyone to have these traits when we are first born, and they need to be nurtured more to have them grow and fully be used. With John Doe’s case he is not being honest with himself and his religion. He is using this feature that blocks people from seeing what he has downloaded. This goes against his religion and his not being honest with his church that he has downloaded something like this. Also, if he was the writer of this book and someone was giving it away for free in this manner, he is not treating everyone the same as he would probably not like that someone did that to help. He is blaming is economic status on the fact that he is unable to purchase this book. He has not looked into different ways to get the book, like maybe the library has this book that he is able to rent. “The “veil of ignorance” is a moral reasoning device designed to promote impartial decision making by denying decision makers access to potentially biasing information about who will benefit most or least from the available options” (Huang, et al, 2019). Using this theory there would be no crime as he does not know he is hurting anyone and or stealing money from someone.
