Leadership Competencies
I believe I possess great leadership skills on my job and as an FNP student within the clinical setting. This program has helped to shape me into an even better leader. I have met this student learning outcome in several ways. I have a strong work ethic and it is displayed in my work and within the clinical setting. I can communicate effectively and work collaboratively with other members of the interdisciplinary team. I am a self-starter and do not have to be spoon-fed what to do in the clinical setting. I take initiative and take pride in my work. I always keep in mind who could be watching me and what example am I setting. Walden University has taught me the importance of effective leadership, being able to critically think, ask questions when I am unsure, and the necessary skills needed to make decisions regarding my patients' care.

Quality Competencies
I have met this program's student learning outcome through my ability to research and utilize evidence-based practices when providing care in the clinic. Evidence-based practice is an approach to healthcare that uses current research to improve the patient’s overall safety and outcomes. I stay up to date with research and changes in medicine. The program has taught me the importance of following established treatment guidelines when a diagnosis is made. Treatment guidelines in the clinic serve as a guide that is proven safe and effective in patients' treatment. The second way I have mastered this outcome is by learning the importance of preventive care. I’ve learned that time, education, and compliance are the keys to health promotion. Health promotion helps to prevent disease, disability, and death in our patients. This in turn would lead to a healthier community, improvement in the quality of patient care and outcomes, and ultimately lower unnecessary healthcare costs.

Ethics Competencies
I have met this student learning outcome. I treat every patient encounter the same despite their background, race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, culture, etc. I have learned to check my own bias, attitude, and judgments at the patient’s door. I learned this in nursing fundamentals and have built on this over my nursing career and through this program. I know that everyone has the right to safe, individualized treatment plans without being discriminated against or causing harm. Although ethical dilemmas can be challenging, I do feel comfortable and have the knowledge, and resources needed to assist in resolution. Time, communication, and education typically play a huge role in resolving ethical and legal dilemmas that I may face. Again, the program has instilled in me the importance of following the code of ethics, professional policies, and regulations of the state I intend to practice. I know this safeguard me as a healthcare provider while protecting the patient, family, and community.
