Abstract
In this discussion I developed a project plan that will allow production to continue while the movement of machines and staff into their new locations is taking place. The plan needs to list assumptions, constraints, and a network diagram for the move. Also, identify the critical path in your plan and its length in days.
Week 8 Discussion
Project Plan
The primary mission of the project plan is to allow production to continue while we move shipping to new space and expand the production to the old shipping area. The scope of the project involves securing the new building for the shipping department, purchasing new machinery for production, and moving all the shipping department equipment to the new building. Expected costs include the new building purchase, purchasing new machinery for production, and costs associated with moving into the new building and incidentals. The benefits of this move include an expansion of the production floor, allowing for more contracts to be completed. Another benefit is the shipping location having more space to organize the final productions for efficient shipping, reducing shipping and holding costs.
Planning for this project involves ensuring that the new addition is ready for shipping to move in. Preparations involve making sure the building is going to be able to handle the increased use of personnel and equipment. We also need to clean and prepare the area that shipping leaves behind to accommodate more production equipment. The plan is to purchase new equipment but the lay out of equipment needs to be just as efficient as the previously designed production floor.
The shipping department requires separate planning and logistics since it is moving to an entirely new space. The existing equipment will need to be move to the new space and prepare care to reduce damage will be taken. Budgeting analysis will take place to research if new equipment can be purchased instead of moving existing equipment. This may have a reduction in moving costs. Additional planning for how the final product is going to be moved to new area needs to be completed. The initial plan is for our own shipping trucks to move the final product to the new shipping area. The new shipping department will have to have sound communication equipment in place since it is in a separate area, lack of communication will be detriment to the efficiency of Kibby and Strand.
Assumptions
The new building will not have issues that were not previously fixed prior to moving in.
Moving equipment and machinery will not result in damage or unforeseen problems.
All logistics in moving will be completed without issue.
Production will not be interrupted during the move.
Constraints
Logistics of moving large pieces of equipment, either across the production floor or to the new space for the shipping department.
Limiting production loss while the move is taking place.
Additional costs if machinery cannot be moved by Kibby and Strand owned equipment.
Moving final goods to a separate location for shipping.
