WEEK 8 ASSIGNMENT
George social history
Presenting Problem
George is a sixteen-year-old who has called in for assistance regarding various issues ranging from mental to emotional support so that he can cope with the situation that life has thrown at him. George has, over the years, faced a difficult time trying to fit into the American lifestyle. As such, he has not had a place he could call his permanent home but keeps on staying in shelters and open buildings. George believes that his current life dilemma is primarily hinged on the lack of the sense of direction in life and from the loss of his entire family in Syria.
Family of Origin
George hails from Northern Syria. The father and mother to George met while working on the farms. The parents were born into agricultural lifestyles. George currently is a refugee in the United States. All his family members were killed in the Northern Syria bombing attacks and came into the United States as part of a church mission. Ever since he moved into America, he lived with a foster family and attended high school but had difficulty adapting to the lifestyle. He recently left his foster home and has been sleeping in shelters.
Birth & Childhood
George’s childhood was characterized by various sporting activities such as playing football and tennis. He, however, lost his parents and sister in a bombing attack in Northern Syria. George then decided to come to America as part of a church mission.
Marriage & Significant Relationships
George is not married and has no significant relationship.
Current Living Arrangement
George currently resides in the New Harbor Shelter. George, like other people within the shelter, has no place to call home. He feels there is a need for him to change his current life situation by going back to school and securing a part-time job. He has called the shelter home for about six months.
Education
George is a 10th-grade dropout but has the desire to re-enroll and complete school. He, however, mentions attending school while in Syria.
Military Service
Has no military service.
Employment History
George has no employment history. However, it is imperative to note that the New Harbor Homeless Shelter has allowed him to secure six hours a day job at a grocery store.

Behavioral Health
George exhibits extreme depression from his family lost in the bombing attack. He also reports experiencing cases of intense sadness, substance abuse and poor impulse control. The other notable behavior is opposition defiance.
Legal history
George has a history of vandalism, theft, J-walking and cases of home invasions.
Social & Recreational Activities
George is anti-social. He does not enjoy any recreational activities in America.
Religious Activities
Ever since the church mission rescued him, George does not report any religious allegiance but attends morning services and prayers at the Community shelter.
Strengths and Resources
George’s main strength is his ability to pull through with the loss of his family and his survival of the turmoil. It takes a big heart to keep pushing even when you have lost the people you loved the most. Also, he was able to dream again by coming to the United States with the hope of living a good life and the American dream. From the bombing attack that claimed his entire family and loved ones to a new society, George has taken on a new journey that epitomizes his zeal. George has limited resources.
Impressions and Recommendations
The Community Shelter is requesting that George be put under the DFACS custody and allowed to see a therapist to help him with the issue of depression. Also, he is to be allowed to re-enroll back to school immediately and checked for mental health. It is also imperative for George to be provided with a part-time job. The HPS will offer the latter.
