Workplace Spiritual Development Plan

Spirituality is "that which is traditionally believed to be the vital principle or animating force within living human beings-that which constitute one's unseen intangible being or the real sense or significance of something." Simply spirituality is what makes us whole and defines what our purpose in life (Achua et al. 2015). It might be tied to religion, but all in all, it has to originate from within. There are four approaches to implementing spirituality in the workplace, but the most crucial aspect is the individual development of spirituality, which has the most impact. This is because focusing on an individual is better than dealing with the organisation as a wholesome people might be left out.

Individual Spirituality.

Spirituality at this level, the focus is mainly placed at the individual, whereby there are efforts of helping the employees to discover more about their sense of purpose, spiritual principles and values. The workplace should be committed to assisting the employees in aligning their spiritual path and their faith; this can be done through providing courses focused on meditation or meditation rooms or even bring in speakers who are specialised in spiritual development. This is because people who have discovered their purpose or “calling” will be more creative committed and productive.

How can Individual Spirituality be implemented in the workplace? Well, there must be plans that have steps? This paper develops a program that can be utilised to come with a successful implementation of Individual Spirituality. Spirituality is an essential aspect in our life and mainly acts as the base of everything individuals put their minds to, it creates a value system commitment, and it is vital that the value system is well taken care of in both the workplace and the private life (Giacalone et al. 2010). The current lifestyle has changed, and people have become busier ever, and our lives have been centred on our careers. Hence it is vital to nurture personal spirituality. The following points might help when it comes to nurturing own spirituality in the workplace:

Connecting the Individual’s Value System to the Work.

Taking a job because it has more benefits or it is high paying it is a mistake, an individual might make the job that might not align with their value system, and what follows is that the employee will fail to develop any spirituality. Hence before hiring anyone, it is better for the workplace to have policies or to establish the individual's core beliefs that will enable the individuals to connect to the work. For instance, a person who is based on volunteering it safer for them to focus their skills in activities that fulfil that such as Non-Governmental Organizations, or just a department of the workplace that involves maybe Community Social Responsibility. This can be achieved if only, the company is straight forward with their core values, before hiring so that the employees can decide whether it is the right workplace (Pawar 2009). This can be done by asking the individuals questions during the interviews to check if the spirituality aligns with the organisation. Well, this is the essential step for developing spirituality, but sadly, the corporate world would ire anyone as long as they are on their best performance (Denton et al. 1999). It is not all companies some focus on the spirituality of the individuals, and it is essential if all applied this step.

We are encouraging employees to know each other.

Knowing the people, you work with it is essential as it is the road to promote a cohesive environment. This is because employees are understanding and knowing each will benefit the workplace because everyone will be understood that is each employee or at least one can know what their neighbour at work is going through both in the work or private life (Gilbert 2018). It is better because at the time what a workplace needs are empathy, and this can be done if an individual can find someone to talk to and learn them. This will create a safe place or person for each and in turn, will develop individual spirituality.

Group Individuals based on Their Beliefs.

Based on the first point, it is essential for an individual to work in an environment that focuses on their core value, the value system. In the workplace it would be beneficial to place the individuals who share the same values and beliefs, this will allow them to find someone to talk to and share their ideas (Singha et al. 2016). Individuals will be encouraged to speak about spirituality in the workplace without making other people who have different beliefs feel uncomfortable. The main aim for this point is to enable individuals to feel the sense of belonging and thus at the beginning, activities like inviting spiritual speakers are encouraged. This will guide them further in their spiritual journey and to add on this; it is better if they are on this journey with persons of similar values.

Conclusion

Workplace Spiritual Individuality is an essential factor because it enhances employee productivity. This is the most critical aspect for every business hence focusing on the 3 step plan will help in implementing employee spirituality. As seen it is best to start the process at the point of employment that will enable the organisation to establish the type of employee they are dealing with which give the direction of encouraging the interactions in the workplace and placing the individuals into departments that will nurture their core beliefs and develop spirituality.
