Thesis statement

During the nineteenth century, slavery was inevitable and inhumane, and it would end due to the proclamation of the emancipation of Lincoln as well as the changes in the economy. Events such as the compromise of 1850, the presidency of President Abraham Lincoln, as well as the Kansas-Nebraska Act made a way for the starting of the American Civil War (Chadwick, 2017).

Outcomes

The 3/5th compromise was proposed by the delegates for the Constitutional Convention in 1987. This compromise made the process for slaves to be counted as part of the population by states to establish taxation as well as representation for the federal government. Each slave was counted as three-fifths of a person when this institution was acknowledged by the United States government. The purpose of this was for representation in Congress as well as taxation and the liberty to responses any individual held to service or labor. In the south, there was an illegal increment with slaves.

The passing of the Kansa-Nebraska allowed for people to decide if they allowed slavery in the borders of Nebraska and Kansas. After disagreements between those who supported slavery and those who did not know the anti-slavery won. The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 making Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state (Forbes, 2009). The compromise of 1850 required states to return runaway slaves. The Dred Scott decision was a ruling that was made against Dred Scott an African American slave who had sued for his freedom, his two daughters and that of his wife in the Scott versus Sanford case of 1987 but it was unsuccessful (Maltz, 2007). The outcome of the decision was that slavery was allowed across the united states as well as the countries territories and slaves were not people anymore they were referred to as property. It made the Missouri Compromise null and void.

Reasons why slavery was and is incompatible with our political and economic system.

The development of southern capitalism was hindered by slavery- Slave proprietors were quicker on displaying their immeasurable estates and immense stores of slaves than they were about benefits and venture.

Economies that used slave were disadvantageous- The effects of slavery had affected many economies because the financing of slavery was inconsistent.

Slavery was regarded as capital equipment- The immediate effect on the utility of the slaves themselves of this condition spoke to a repulsive financial cost.

Driving forces that led to the Civil War.

• The presidency of president Abraham Lincoln

• The future of slavery

• The Dred Scott Decision on Citizenship

• The Abolitionist Movement

• The Missouri Compromise

• The Raid on Harper’s Ferry
