As citizens of the United States, it is important for our rights to be valued and protected, whether that be through the United States Constitution or the specific state you may reside in. Chamberlain University (2022) highlights the importance of the Bill of Rights as knowing “that governments can be corrupt, so they set up rules and norms to protect us” (para. 6). Keeping this in mind, it is important for us to highlight the importance of the Bill of Rights and constitution, as a whole. I am currently residing in the state of Arizona so in terms of this discussion post, I will be referring to the Arizona versus the United States Constitution. One way this state is able to protect an individual’s rights can be seen through the freedom of religion. The Arizona Constitution states that religious establishments shall not take any public money, no individual can be turned away from employment due to their religion, and there should be no questioning regarding religious belief in the court of justice (Arizona State Legislature, 2022). In comparison to the U.S. Constitution where it protects against religious test as a qualification in the Office or public Trust (National Archives, 2022). Although the U.S. Constitution has protected American citizens in more ways than one, it is also important to highlight the presence of your particular state constitution and how it can also play a great role. As we have seen in the example provided pertaining to religion, the specific state constitution that we reside in can hold much more specifications and can help to value and protect our rights as citizens.
