Week 7 Navigation
Week 7: Qualitative Work and Online Culture Overview: This week covers more specific information about qualitative research and some foundational information about how we can understand culture and what happens with the formation of culture in online spaces. We will also look more closely at using Reddit and organizing data.

place to collect data from. If you are familiar with/comfortable with Reddit and would
like to take a look at a different subreddit, please contact me about this as soon as
possible. You will need approval to branch out.
Weekly Lecture Videos The first video for this week covers a few qualitative approaches to research in more depth. This is a broad overview of some of the major ways that qualitative data is collected.

Next, and somewhat relevant and useful for our purposes, we will consider what culture is comprised of and some of the cultural forms and barriers that one can encounter online.
We are going to be building your final project piece by piece at this point, so this video is going to focus on some foundational ideas in data collection. We will cover this more in depth next week. Here is the document featured in the video: Content Analysis

Additionally, this is where something like codebooks are relevant. In my data, for example, I have "Lvl 1 Comment" and "Lvl 2 Comment." I could explain/define this for anyone else who might be working with the data. So, "Lvl 1" is a comment in response to the main post and "Lvl 2" is a comment in response to a comment.
