Week 7 Leadership Principles Assignment

Many companies, organizations and groups have an official written set of leadership principles to guide decision-making, thoughts and actions. Sometimes leadership principles are not so much ‘official’ as proposed by a member or members of a group. In this assignment, you’ll read two sets of leadership principles, one from Amazon (official) and another set, the Twelve Principles of Modern Military Leadership, proposed by US Army Captain Ron Roberts in an article that appeared in NCO Journal. Both sets of leadership principles are available in Week 7 Content.

Amazon has defined a set of Leadership Principles that it believes sets Amazon apart from its competitors. They were written by Amazon’s founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, and are recognized as the values that motivate Amazon employees and are a driving force behind Amazon’s success. Review the Amazon Leadership Principles in the Week 7 Content, then visit the website below to understand the importance of the principles and how they are used in the interview process: https://interviewsteps.com/blogs/news/amazon-leadership-principles-interview

The Twelve Principles of Modern Military Leadership by Capt. Ron Roberts are not official military leadership principles, but have leadership implications far beyond a military context.

The purpose of this assignment is to assist you in thinking through your experience and identifying situations in which you have demonstrated elements of either set of leadership principles. This will be done in the form of responses to interview questions.

You should choose one of the two sets of leadership principles and complete the corresponding STAR document.

The STAR document contains a table with all of the leadership principles listed, along with spaces for you to respond to each principle using the STAR answer framework described below:

· Situation: interviewer will ask about a challenge and/or situation in which you found yourself

· Task: Interviewer will be looking to see what you were trying to achieve from the situation

· Action: What did you do and why?

· Result: What did you achieve through your actions and were you able to meet your objectives?

Complete the table describing your experience using correct grammar and spelling and complete sentences. Be sure your name is at the top of your assignment.

In the event that neither set of leadership principles resonates with you, you may choose a different set of leadership principles, either through research or perhaps from your own organization, company or group. However, you must send your proposal of BOTH principles AND corresponding situations; thus it is your responsibility to develop the interview questions. There must be at least 10 principles listed, with 10 corresponding situations. Should you choose this option, you should email your proposal to the instructor by Friday (Day 3) of Week 7.
