SUBJECT: Process Improvement Plan

Background

The current report focuses on the quality issues that is being faced by Kibby and Strand due to shortening delivery times in order to get their products to customers. The domino effect has been created due to this dilemma as the truck drivers are stuck in receiving department. This happened because trucks are full with the materials. The employees were unable to unload the truck because of workload. Therefore, truck drivers have to wait to unload the materials. By creating a process improvement plan, Kibby and Strand will try to overcome and mitigate the quality issues.

Analysis

The operational strategy created by Kibby and Strand is to provide customers with highest quality products and services before the delivery date.

Receiving Department – this department plays an important role in collecting data based on seasonal trend. The receiving department is responsible to calculate future sales and order raw materials that will be enough to meet the demands of the customers. Moreover, receiving department will ensure to maintain minimum level of different materials that will not halt the process of production if customers order more materials. The receiving department will also be responsible to maintain a standard number of employees to meet the demands of the department.

Production – the main purpose of this department is to convert raw materials into finished goods. The department will hire highly capable and skilled employees who can operate and maintain automated machinery efficiently and effectively. Moreover, the department will be responsible to improve the production line efficiency to meet the targets set by the company.

Shipping – the main focus of this department is to receive, log and store products till they can be distributed to customers on or before delivery date. Moreover, the department will be also looking for shipping costs by selecting most efficient delivery method. The department will also responsible to pick the right product from the inventory and do the packaging.

Execution

The checklist for receiving, production, and shipping should be filled out at each assembly line to make sure contracts are being finished in a timely manner.
