Compare and contrast elder abuse and child abuse. What did you discover about elder abuse and child abuse that you were not aware of?
Re: Topic 7 DQ 2
Elder abuse is an act or failure to act on something that might put the life of an older person at risk. Older people can be abused in either of the following ways, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, which can lead to death. On the other hand, child abuse happens when the parent or the caregiver of the child acts or fails to act, risks the life of the child, or inflicts injuries or causes death (Malousek et al., 2016). A child may be abused sexually, emotionally, physically, or subjecting them to excessive labor. In the United States, children are more abused than the elderly, and in most cases, they are abused sexually. Also, children in the United States are subjected to the drug trafficking trade. On the other hand, any person above the age of 65 is considered elderly. The elderly are prone to rejection, especially when they are sick. Also, the elderly are not given proper medical which can put their lives at risk.

Hi Tamika, do you think that one of these crimes should be punished more harshly than the other? You need to answer him back on what you wrote.

Re: Topic 7 DQ 2
Elder abuse is the act of depriving someone of food, physical, emotional, neglect or anything that causes the person distress. Child abuse is basically the same thing, abuse is the same regardless of if the person is young or old. The one thing that I was not aware of was the fact that elders abuse themselves by self-neglect. Self-neglect is when the elder cannot take care of themselves either because they have a mental disability, have poor hygiene and live-in filth, or have a drug and/or alcohol problem. They also do not have any other family or person to help care for them. Another thing that is the same in elder and child abuse is the fact that a child does not know how to help themselves get out of the situation just as the elderly are incapable of getting out. The child is dependent on their parent or caregiver just as the elderly are. In some cases, the elderly does not have anyone to help them just as the child does not. A child has a lot more psychological issues that can come about from abuse like anxiety, depression and also become abusers themselves when they are older. There are a lot of warning signs that children are being affected by abuse such as harming animals and being aggressive to others around them. Being older and elderly, you have a good sense of what is going on is wrong, where as a child may not know better if that is the environment, they are brought up in.
