1. Two cars leave an intersection at the same time, one traveling north and the other traveling east. Sometime later, they are 20 miles apart, and the car going east has traveled 4 miles farther than the other car. How far has each car traveled?
2. The combined area of a square and a rectangle is 57 square feet. The width of the rectangle is 3 feet more than the length of a side of the square, and the length of the rectangle is 5 feet more than the length of a side of the square. Find the length of the rectangle.
