How do you think the changing nature of work, as described in Chapter 16, impacts OD?

Organizational development in general helps organizations build their capacity to change and achieve greater effectiveness by developing, improving, and reinforcing strategies, structures, and processes. Organizational development when it comes to HR involves changes and improvement of the processes and structures that are a part of HR’s responsibility. Those can include systems related to performance management, talent management, diversity, employee wellness and so on.

I think allowing changing the nature of work allows companies to keep up with the trends. Organizations today are all about competition, change keeps them innovative and relevant. Chapter 16 mentions employees having the opportunity to work from home becoming more popular. Several companies have gotten on board with it if the job is applicable. Working from home is becoming the new norm and changing the typical nature of work would make this more acceptable within more companies. Changing the nature of work also allow employees to learn new things to add to their experience and career path.

According the textbook definition of OD (organizational development)... "it is the process of increasing organizational effectiveness and facilitating personal and organizational change through the use of interventions driven by social and behavioral science knowledge".

When changes are implemented within the work place, employees become used to the changes and like to stick to what they know, as opposed to frequent change, so as you can imagine, when the nature of work changes, employees change as well. With new change, there may be room for confusion, frustration and mistakes. Employees aren't sure anymore of what their specific role is, if new ideas are implemented, they might not know how to carry them out. If there are new team members, current employees may not get as comfortable with them as they would have with their coworkers now. Change in any dynamic isn't always going to be easy, in fact, it requires support from all parties involved, dedication from all employees to make sure the changes are implemented effectively and energy from everyone. When there is cooperation from all, companies can operate smoothly.
