Field Trip to Warner Robins Museum of Aviation
Exposing students to field trips give them opportunities to have hands-on learning experiences in the world around them. In addition, students can make connections with the concepts and objectives they are taught in the classroom. The Warner Robins Museum of Aviation has numerous activities that will keep my first-grade students engaged, and I believe that this trip will be an effective way to reinforce my lesson plan.
General Planning
· The location of the field trip is at the Warner Robins Museum of Aviation, 1942 Heritage Blvd, Robins AFB, GA 31098. The cost for each student is $7.00, and the cost per adult is $5.00.
· A total of 18 students will be going on the trip, and a total of 15 adults will be going on the trip.
· The students will be transported by the school bus, and the parents will drive provide their own transportation.
· Special offers on this field trip include free registration for summer camps and free moon screenings at the theater.
· Lunch options: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich or ham sandwich with chips, cookie, fruit, and milk. Teacher will make this decision independently. If there is a student who has an allergy to peanut butter, the teacher will usually choose the ham sandwich option unless the student’s parent prefers other accommodations.
· Description of services available for students with disabilities: Depending on the disability, student is provided with an independent chaperone or teacher assistant provided by the school. This chaperone or teacher assistant will support the student throughout the entire field trip. Wheel chairs will be able for anyone who needs one during the field trip at the museum, and there will be no charge.
· Guidelines for chaperones: Chaperones are to help maintain discipline and the safety of all students. Chaperones will accompany students throughout the entire field trip. Chaperones will ensure all essentials needs (hand soap, hand sanitizer, napkins, medicines) are provided during the field trip. The medicines will be provided by the school nurse, and the students’ electronic files will be reviewed if they were to have a need for medicine. The chaperone will also ensure that a sign-out sheet is provided for parents whose child will leave with them after the field trip and will not be returning to school. The chaperone is expected to provide the school’s front office clerk his or her contact number in case of an emergency.
Academic Planning
· Learning objectives:
· Students will demonstrate how magnets attract and repel each other.
· Students will demonstrate the effect of magnets on common objects.
· Students will determine the uses of magnets in everyday life.
· Activities: Students will participate in hands-on activities that include magnets and building robots. These activities support learning by providing students the opportunity to experiment with magnetic and non-magnetic objects as well as learn how to build robotic manipulatives using different objects that feel differently. As the students explore magnetic and non-magnetic objects, they will recognize which type of objects will attract and repel each other. Students will put magnets on a wall and use the magnets to hold notes on the wall. Students will use magnets to pick up paper clips.
· Students would have to complete reflections after the field trip as follows:
· Students will be instructed to illustrate their favorite part of the field trip.
· Students will be instructed to complete a journal entry describing where they went on the field trip and what they did on the field trip.
· Permission letter to parents:

Reflection
Considering that there is an Air Force Base Museum within an hour drive from the school which provides Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities, it was not difficult to find a field trip that supported the chosen learning objectives. I believe that this specific field trip was a way for me to promote positive outcomes for my students because it provided them with hands-on activities outside of the classroom as well as instruction from other knowledgeable teachers that teach these same activities every day to hundreds of boys and girls. In addition, this museum has educational programs that are aligned with our state’s standards, and they also enhance the students’ level of understanding.
I will use this process in my future professional practice to help guide my field trip planning. This process will assist me in ensuring that I have a well-thought out general and academic plan. Understanding the importance of general planning will assist me in focusing on a field trip location that will benefit my students the most. It will help me to consider the cost that parents will incur as well as the distance they will have to travel. It will also help me to consider the needs of all my students, their abilities, and what services that would be needed while on the field trip. While planning for this field trip, I was able to see the breakdown of each step that needed to be planned in order to have a successful, engaging, and enjoyable trip for the students.
This process will help me focus on learning objectives that will need to be met while on the field trip. I will consider the activities and how well they meet my students’ needs as a group as well as individually. Due to time restrictions during the field trip, I would use this process to make adjustments as needed so that my future students get a chance to have an even better experience at the museum.
