Shana Sindrich

In reflection on 19th and 20th-century nurses and events, I would say that Linda Richards would be the most inspiring figure in guiding my current professional nursing practice. Not only was Linda the first formally trained American nurse and but she was a pioneer in pushing for and ultimately creating high-quality nurse training schools, even while at odds with physicians of the time. Her perseverance and dedication to what the profession could be during her time set the foundation for all the professional nursing education programs (i.e., ADN, BSN, MSN, NP, Ph.D., etc.) that we are so lucky to have today.

I hope that I can, as a result of my perseverance and dedication to the profession, like Linda Richards, inspire current and future nursing professionals to never stop pushing for the advancement of the profession. While I do not know what the future holds, I can, in my current, everyday practice working with nursing staff at my organization, be a voice of encouragement and help elevate others to reach their goals and full potential within the profession.
