Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to prepare the DNP student for professional practice at the doctoral level. The student will explore personal goals for a desired practice setting upon graduation, a leadership philosophy, networking strategies, and how to overcome barriers to practice. Finally, a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) will be completed.

RUBRICS:

1, Introduction to the DNP Professional Practice Plan: Excellent introduction of the purpose of the paper. Includes information about the student’s professional background, goals in obtaining a DNP, and goals upon graduation with timeframes including five and ten years. Thesis statement is well developed and provides a summary of vital elements of the paper.

2, DNP Practice Setting Goals: Exceptional

Provides information about the evolution of the practice doctorate degree including future projections. Discussion includes educational and job projections for DNP prepared nurses, information from accreditation bodies and information from applicable Nurse Practice Act’s. Short and long term goals are discussed with regard to education, licensure/certification, regulatory requirements, and practice setting details

3, Personal Leadership Philosophy: Exceptional

Excellent discussion of personal leadership values and principles for application to nursing practice. Leadership Philosophy is supported with scholarly references and a theory or framework from nursing or another discipline. Leadership is clearly defined, discussed, and applied to personal practice.

4, Networking Strategies and Overcoming Barriers to Practice: Exceptional

Provided detailed information regarding career opportunities for a graduate of a DNP program including strategies to locate or become aware of these opportunities. Networking at the local and national organization level is discussed with regard to strategy and rationale for choices. Specific names of applicable organizations are listed. Barriers to practice as well as proposed solutions are discussed.

5, Curriculum Vitae: Exceptional

Personal identification and contact information is easy to find and in an appropriate format. Inclusion of education, work history, community service and professional activities, honors, scholarship, research activity are organized and easy to comprehend. Format is appropriate and consistent throughout. Word choice is correct, precise and unambiguous. Sentence structure is clear, concise and well- constructed. Format and content is appropriate for the type of job you will explore post-graduation.

6, Conclusion: Exceptional

Provided excellent conclusion is clear and concise. The purpose of the paper is made clear. Major details are summarized with minor details left out. The most important components of the Professional Practice Plan are summarized.
