The descriptive statistic reported in the above survey is "what are the major reasons why individuals in the group ventured into a career in baccalaureate nursing?" Descriptive statistics summarize the fundamental features that describe a population under study (Houser, 2016). The statistics compiled in the survey highlight the significant reasons why different individuals choose to become BSN nurses. Firstly, they may join the career because of nursing practice's primary purpose, which is to help others, especially the ill in society. A degree in baccalaureate nursing equips individuals with advanced nursing skills, enabling them to use the best practices while handling the sick in a clinical setting (Houser, 2016). According to the survey, some learners join the degree program because they dream of venturing into the profession. Different aspects pique the interest of individuals in the career. For instance, the illness of a family member or a successful nurse in people's vicinity may trigger their interest in the domain.
Another significant reason respondents gave for joining a degree program in BSN is the ability to advance. The nursing career allows the professionals to advance progressively. After graduating as BSN nurses, the professionals can undergo further training to become MSN and NP (Houser, 2016). The higher qualifications are significant because they enable the professionals to serve in administrative positions in healthcare organizations or become educators. Therefore, BSN allows individuals to advance and secure better positions with more lucrative remunerations. The availability of job opportunities is also a response given by the group. BSN nurses can be employed in public and private healthcare organizations. Therefore, the possibility of qualified BSN nurses failing to secure employment is minimal, making the career lucrative (Houser, 2016). The earning potential and loss of a previous work opportunity are other reasons individuals decide to join BSN. The career has numerous options and increases the chances of their succeeding in life.
In conclusion, the descriptive statistic explored in the survey is why different people in the group joined BSN. Although they give diverse reasons specific to their situation, the bottom line is that they indicate that nursing is an excellent career worth pursuing.
