Be sure to respond to Classmates Post Below:
Hello Class! The rational decision-making model is for making decisions when there are set decision criteria, several alternatives, and time to consider the alternatives. This model is used for making logical (rational), well-thought-out decisions. Usually, within a company, these decisions have a high level of importance and therefore impact the company's strategic goals. This kind of decision-making can be effective for companies because it allows them to consider many factors, possibilities, and options. However, companies must not overuse this method because it is time-consuming. The bounded rationality model is when individuals choose the first acceptable option. I believe this model is very effective for company's because it reduces the time constraints of the rational model; decisions are made faster, and therefore implementation can happen quicker. Also, while this model does not consider many alternatives, it does still set decision criteria. The option selected may not be the best option to select, but it is still a good option.
The intuitive decision-making model is used to make a decision without conscious reasoning; it is a decision on the fly. These decisions are made based on situational context and an individual's knowledge and experience. I would argue that this method is only effective in a company when used by experienced workers. I do not think that someone new to the field should be going with their gut only because they may not have the experience to know if a decision will have a positive or negative outcome. Creative decision-making is when more out-of-the-box solutions are needed. This is when traditional solutions may not work or have been exhausted. This model is also time-consuming as it requires the decision-maker(s) to sit on the possible solutions before implementing them. I believe this allows a company to be effective because "what always worked, won't always work". It is important to be innovative in order to maintain success.
Week 6 Discussion Critical Thinking
The video clip, “The Baloney Detection Kit,” in the webtext this week discusses the ways an effective critical thinker assesses claims made by others. Please respond to the following:
· Examine some key reasons why people might seem attracted to pseudoscientific claims.
· Describe at least two such claims that you have heard people make and analyze the main reasons why such claims do or do not meet rigorous scientific methodology standards.
· Determine at least two ways in which the material discussed this week has changed your own thinking.
· Be sure to respond to Classmates Post Below:
But being convincing isn’t the same as being accurate. " This article about the reliability of eyewitness testimony, examines what is often at the heart of many pseudo-scientific claims. "I saw it with my own eyes!" continues to be a convincing argument for many people.
