4 Week Masters' Program Cybercrime Class
According to Chapter One of the book, Policing Cybercrime and Cyberterror, corporate security personnel may often intentionally not report a cybercrime, particularly if they perceive that this might negatively impact their client. In your opinion, should security personnel be required to report acts of cybercrime that are perpetuated against the companies they work for? In other words, should their primary loyalty be to the public or the organization which employs them. Take a position either way and fully elaborate.
Next, after reading Chapter Two, the authors contend that there is a need for dramatic improvements in the documentation of cybercrime calls for service and victimization data. After reflecting upon Chapter Two, please provide at least one meaningful suggestion as to how the documentation of cybercrime offenses can be improved.
Also, please point to one additional aspect of Chapter Two that you found to be of interest. Be sure to elaborate as to why this particular aspect of Chapter Two is significant to our understanding of cybercrime.
Next, consider the sample of 246 officers that were polled regarding their interest in cybercrime and computer training (see pages 56-57). Besides the variables that were listed (e.g. sex, race, computer skill, etc.), what are some other variables that you believe might be related to an officer's willness to receive cybercrime training. Please identify two variables that were not examined or discussed and explain why you feel as those these variables might be worth examining. Be sure to fully elaborate.
Besides responding to the questions presented here, you must also pose a critical thinking question to your peers. As a reminder, please try to develop a question which will truly encourage your classmates to reflect upon the material at the graduate-level.
You must also attempt to fully answer at least one question posed by a fellow classmate for one of your two required follow-up comments. When you respond to a question posed by one of your peers, please be sure to address this person by name, as it makes it much easier for the rest of the class to follow the online ‘conversation.’
Keep in mind that special consideration will be given to students who post comments early in the week, as well to students who post multiple substantive follow-up comments. All comments must be submitted no later than Saturday November 21st. Late comments will not be accepted. Good luck!
The first comment you post should be your response to the initial question. Please note, once you post your response, you will not be able to edit it or delete it. This will be the response that is graded. So, please make sure that you do a good job. Once you hit 'submit' the work that you turned in will be graded. And, if you have questions, please contact the instructor before posting your response.
