Week 6 Discussion 1:

Intervention

LECTURE:

Performance Consulting, Persuasive Communications, and Influences

Week 6

We are entering week 6 of the course. You have covered a considerable amount of material during this course. Moving from theoretical concepts into practical application is the purpose for the remainder of the course. The time has come to take the objectives set by the client and consultant and put them into action. An assessment of the situation has occurred through series of methods including research observation, data mining, and interviews. The plan has been developed and agreed upon. The consultant works their plan. The intervention stage is where the rubber meets the road. The consultant and client are now working together to make the agreed shifts from the old paradigm to a new paradigm. Interventions can be difficult. Change often prompts resistance on all levels of an organization. When the client changes begin to occur; they may also become resistant. You may also find that disruption is common throughout the organization during a time of organizational change. Change is often the very reason shifts do not come to fruition.  Equilibrium is necessary in an organization. The consultant that is aware of this will institute the plan incrementally. Plan to change with strong support systems as effective methods assists in finishing the journey. Maintain a degree of balance and be sure not to implement change all at one time. The consultant that causes a fruit basket upset causes chaos. Evaluation of the changes along with implementation will provide solid feedback as to the results as well as fallout. The case is set by continually taking the temperature of the project and responses. Understanding the project impact before, during, and after implementation is critical to an effective project. Be sure to assess, rework (if necessary), and follow up to ensure that the change is working as planned.  Develop, implement, and improve the tools and processes for the project. Continuous improvement for the consultant benefits the clients present and future through the learning process. Adjust as needs arise to maintain an even keel of the organization. Too much change at one time will produce negative results for the consultant and the client. Continually assess, analyze, and evaluate the process. Be prepared to adjust accordingly.
