# 6 – To be an authentic brand, expose your imperfection(s).
Miracle Whip was innovated during the great depression. Miracle Whip was developed in 1933 as a cheaper alternative to mayonnaise. “It has the same basic ingredients—eggs, oil and vinegar—but it also contains extra sugar and spices” (Davis, 2021). Since Miracle Whip contains less oil, it’s not technically mayonnaise at all. Through branding, Miracle Whip is thought of as more of a lightly sweet salad dressing and even a healthier alternative to mayonnaise as it contains half the fat. There are light and free options that are targeted towards low-fat consumers. Everyone I know who loves the Whip invariably associates it to their own parents’ purchase and preference.
Miracle Whip’s marketing team kicked off a campaign that embraces both Miracle whip’s lovers and haters, with appearances from celebrities like Pauly D from Jersey Shore, who voiced his disdain for the brand. While this is a very risky approach, Miracle Whip’s goal in their campaign was to entice a non-user to pick up a bottle of Miracle Whip. Miracle Whip has a unique flavor that tends to stir a dividing reaction in consumers. So, rather than deny this truth, Miracle Whip is embracing it and owning up to the fact that they are not for everyone.
I believe that the idea will be long-lasting, as the Miracle Whip/Mayonnaise goes back almost as far as the University of Louisville vs. University of Kentucky rivalry. The rivalry is reminiscent of the gravy vs. sauce debate. Miracle Whip is not pretending to have a groundbreaking product nor are they pretending that this product is universally loved, and I believe that approach will continue to grab consumers in a very real way, which serves as a competitive advantage for the company.

After watching the video this week, I chose "Live your brand's Promise'. brand that comes to mind to me is the otter box cases for our tablet and cell phones. otter box bring not only unique styles but also the protection of our electronic devices that is very costly. Consumers are paying at least 1200 dollars each time a new iPhone comes out or at least financing the equivalents to it. Each year it seems like the phones are getting more and more fragile with the slick look and glass bodied. The phones are more likely to break or crack when dropping. This became such big issue because so many people has tp replace their new phones after maybe having it a few weeks, a month or even a day.
Otterbox was the game changer for the smart phone consumers of the world when it came out with a case that not only protects the phone from misfortunes but gives it a exciting look while doing so. OtterBox, has a team of engineers who are passionate about crafting great products. The tireless of development and design efforts have resulted in 300+ patent. They test each design and material to make sure the products you need can stand up to your daily life. Each design goes through a minimum of 238 testing hours across 24+ different tests.
