Assignment 12
What principle did you select?
This week I chose to work on, “Make the other person feel important… …and do it sincerely”
Who did you interact with?
I interacted with my classmate. We have been working and studying together for some time, but we interact only for class work. She has been good to me and she is helping when I do not understand a lecture or something in our class. Because of that, I decided to do something to appreciate her.
What was the context?
I decided to invite her to my home for dinner. She was actually surprised when I told her that I would like her to come to my home for dinner and just to share some time together and show her my appreciation, but she accepted.
What did you expect?
I was worries and I expected the day to be somehow awkward because we had never interacted regarding something other than our class work but I hoped for the best.
What happened?
The dinner went well than I had expected and apparently, I had cooked for the dinner one of her best dishes. We shared a lot and I got to know her better. She was really happy that I had invited her to dinner and suggested that we can do that every weekend alternately.
How did it make you feel?
I was happy that the day went very well and we enjoyed our time but on top of that, I was glad that I had made that step to make my classmate feel important to appreciate all that she had done for me.
What did you learn?
From the experience and the things we shared about our personal life, making friends is all about breaking boundaries and allowing people to get to know you better. We usually hide a lot about what is happening in our lives from people but once you make someone else feel like you value him/her, it goes a long way to build trust and grow your friendship.
What surprised you?
I was surprised of how our conversations went beyond our work and we were able to share things about our personal life. I got to know more about my classmate than I knew before.
How can you apply this going forward?
This principle has challenged me to make this step to appreciate those people that have helped me in a way or another in my life and make them feel important and build our friendship.
