If a researcher wanted to predict how well a student might do in college, what variables do you think he or she might examine? What statistical procedure would he or she use?

Donette

What does the saying “correlation does not imply causation” mean?

The phrase “correlation does not imply causation” means that there is no relationship between variables based on association or correlation. In other words, variables can have a correlation but they can also have nothing to do with each other. An example would be the homeless population and crime rate. Both might be high in an area, so they are correlated, but that doesn’t mean they affect each other.

How does determining a best-fitting line help us to predict from one variable to another?
