Literature Review (First Draft)

Peer Review Guide

Note to Reviewer: Please provide more than simple “yes” or “no” answers. Explain why you say what you do and go into the most detail in areas where you see the most room for improvement. Provide the writer with specific references to and/or quotes from the literature review itself to illustrate the points you make throughout your peer review. (You can also make comments directly in the text of the paper and attach the paper to this review.) Above all, keep in mind that you are writing for a peer: be respectful, polite, and as constructively critical as you can.

1. In your own words, describe the purpose of the research. Does the author’s literature review move in a direction of responding to or addressing her/his research question(s)? The purpose of the research is to bring up limiting screen time for children and teenagers. I am responding to the research questions because I am not arguing the point that it given in the paper.

2. What major areas of the literature are covered? Describe how the author’s work fits into the current body of knowledge. The areas of literature that were covered in the paper was the response that was provided in the references about the limitations on tech time and how some disagree that it does good but believes it does the opposite. The author’s work fits into the body of knowledge because everything that is stated in the article can be proving.

3. How effectively does the writer weave together the sources listed into an organized literature review? How is the cited information analyzed and discussed? What other points might you suggest regarding the sources used in the literature review? The writer did a good job at putting the information into the paper and made it to where the paper flows with the information that was given in the references area. The only other points that I would suggest is adding one or two more references to the page if there was more information that wasn’t used in the paper.

4. How satisfied are you with the writer’s understanding of the literature included? What additional considerations would strengthen the writer’s case and mitigate its overall weakness? I am very satisfied with the understanding of the literature that was in the paper. One thing that might strengthen the writer’s care is to use quotations from experts in the paper.

5. In general, what do you like the most about this literature review? What do you like the least? If you had to list one change that the writer must make to improve her/his work, what alteration or change would you recommend? I think this literature review is good and keeps to the point to where you can understand what is being said. The only change that I would recommend is to use more direct quotes from the article.
