From the library article used, the current week topic has been an ethics auditing process on leadership and social responsibility in business. From the case study performed, the report shows the unethical practice from two case studies; one in Zappos and another in Lululemon. A change of the organizational structure in a move to eliminate the managers in Zappos is seen as unethical. From my research, there is a similar case on leadership, and social responsibility audits as the policies for job termination are not observed. With a concrete example in my research of an employee’s job termination after they questioned the poor working environment provided by the company’s leadership. Alternatively, these companies could have decided to focus on taking the views by the employee and choose to focus on improving the current working conditions.
This alternative formed the basis for analysis, application, and the action. If the company could have chosen not to take the critic by the employee negatively, this would have been a great move. Critics taken positively help greatly in the quality improvement of an organization (Mann & Kehoe, 1994). This will, in turn, have negative effects as the employees will not be willing to point out any weaknesses of the company as they fear of losing their jobs. This will further cost the company in the employee replacement and training of the employee. The case study showed the need for Zappos to improve on its leadership and social responsibility, which would also be a good suggestion for my case study company. The company needs to improve on how they perceive criticism, taken positively from employees and customers; this would help them achieve something better. This study has helped me acquire ethical awareness of leadership. I have been able to learn that negative responses about an organization taken positively will act in the benefit of the organization in a move to achieve better standards.
