President Obama took power when the United States was in a very devastating situation as a result of the impact of the great recession. He made changes to the economy, politics, and social aspects of the nation. Being the first black president, many hoped that there will be an end to racial discrimination. Several legacies were left behind by former president Barack Obama, therefore the discussion of this paper is based on annotating eight articles related to the legacy of the former president.

Cutler, L. (2017). President Barack Obama’s Counterterrorism Strategy and Legacy: The Case of Afghanistan. PS: Political Science & Politics, 50 (1), 59-64.

The article was aimed at presenting the counter-terrorism strategy that was employed by President Obama through cooperating with the Afghanistan government. President aimed at promoting good leadership and authority to the local people. This article is important to the nations that are faced with the problems of terrorism. It shows them that fight against terrorism is through cooperating with the home country and helping them fight against the terror threats so that these groups do not expand into other nations. The author of this article is a professor of political science at Siena College and this implies that he understands well about the topic presented. The author concluded that fight against terror involves the formation of good governance through creating a strategic partnership with the home country just like President Obama did when he made Afghanistan sign the strategic Partnership Agreement (BSA). This article is important since it shows how President Obama managed to do an unthinkable act i.e. working with a nation that has been considered to be an enemy of the United States to end the terror war. In conclusion, it is possible to achieve peace through collaboration with the country hosting terror individuals.

Unger, D. (2016). The Foreign Policy Legacy of Barack Obama. Italian Journal of International Affairs, 51 (4), 1-16.

According to this article, President Obama finished his last term in the leadership with mixed but constructive foreign policy legacy. It led to the improvement in America's internal standings as compared to the previous days of George W. Bush. This article aimed at looking at a legacy of President Obama concerning the foreign policy. President Obama managed to achieve the global agreement which slowed Iran's progress towards the development of nuclear and normalizing diplomacy with Cuba. The author concluded that even though President Obama managed to improve the foreign policy, he failed to get out America from the military over-extension in the greater Mideast and from the international policy perceptions that generated the over-extension. This study is important to the topic since it shows how improvement in the global policy was one of the key legacies that were left behind by President Obama. This study is therefore important since it shows the importance of foreign policy towards the unity of the nations. The author is a correspondent at Joh Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies Europe, Bologna. This shows that he understands issues related to international policy and how the approaches used by the president were important.

The author aimed at assessing Obama's strategies towards the improvement of security in the nation and managing foreign policy. He focused on diplomacy as opposed to the unilateral approach that was adopted by the then President. This article shows that Obama's successfully managed to sign several foreign policies such as the Paris Agreement on the climatic change and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The author concluded that despite this success, his approach of partisan congressional opposition made him fail in some of his approaches. The author is working at Hofstra University, Hempstead, USA and this implies that he understands the aspects of international policy. The study is important to the topic since it shows how improvement in the international policy helped the President to establish his stronger legacy. In conclusion, the appraising of foreign policy was important to achieve a good relationship with other nations.

Quadagno, J., & Lanford, D. (2019). The Obama Health Care Legacy: The Origins, Implementation, and Effort to Repeal the Affordable Care Act of 2010. In Looking Back on President Barack Obama’s Legacy. Palgrave Macmillan, Cham.

The authors reviewed the history as well as the process of implementing the ACA Act of 2010 or Obamacare. According to these authors, even though The Republicans were opposed to this Act, it dramatically changed the United State healthcare system and the stories about whether healthcare is a suitable entitlement. Looking at the authors of this article, Quadagno is working at the department of sociology at Florida State University, Tallahassee. Lanford is working at Scholars Strategy Network at Georgia State University. Therefore, this makes the article to be credible. The article is important to the study since it shows how President Obama changed the healthcare system during his period thus forming one of his legacies. In conclusion, even though he faced rejection with this policy, it managed to pass through thus changing the entire healthcare system of the United State.

White, J. (2017). President Obama’s Legacy of Criminal Justice Reform: Reducing Disparity and Increasing Opportunity.

The author looks at some of the achievements that were made in the reformation of the criminal Justice during the time of President Obama. According to this article, President Obama focused on various issues within the criminal justice system based on the personal lens. He managed to double down on the criminal justice reform where the imprisonment dropped to 5 percent after going up for decades. Clemency was issued to more than 1000 inmates and handled the ballooning incarceration rates. The author concluded that even though President Obama managed to change the criminal justice system, there is still a need for some of them to be shaped. The author of this article is a senior director of the Operations for the Health and Criminal Justice Program of UMass Medical School's Commonwealth Medicine division. This implies that he understands the concepts discussed. The article is important to the topic since it shows how President Obama managed to change the criminal justice system and become one of his legacies. In conclusion, the reformation of the criminal justice system is important in bringing changes in society.

The author aimed at evaluating the Obama administration with the focus on the Supreme Court. According to the authors, Obama helped in transforming this institution and successfully managed to reduce the aggressive rightward change in the Court system. The study is important to the topic since it also shows how President Obama managed to transform the criminal justice through the court system, for example, the rightward shift of the court thus forming one of his legacies. The authors of this article are working at the Department of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and this implies that they understand the concepts of criminal justice. In conclusion, serving the right people in the right manner requires changes from the Court system and this was what President Obama managed to achieve.

The author analyzes the program that was employed by President Obama to attack the issue associated with the gas emitted as a result of the greenhouse from the nations' power plants. Obama managed to influence a 30 percent reduction in the power plant by switching to the natural gas ad relying on the states to achieve a modest objective. This is a clear indication that he prepared to fight the issue of global warming. The authors, however, concluded that the policy adopted by Obama concerning global warming was symbolic and non-substantive. The author of this article is working at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, USA. This gives the credibility of the article and it is important for the topic since it shows the legacy of President Obama concerning global warming.

The authors of this article are examining the changes and advancements in public diplomacy during Obama’s presidency. According to this article, the President used the internet technologies to help in connecting directly to ordinary individuals outside the nation. This enabled the former president to uphold the liberal responses in Russia. In conclusion, the former president successfully managed to use the local bloggers to help in the dissemination of the anti-ISIL messages for the United States government. This article clearly shows how the president used the power of the internet to pass his messages to the rest of the world about his intention. The article is important since it shows how public diplomacy was promoted by the former president thus forming one of his legacies. The authors of the article are Professors and the Head of American Studies Department, Saint Petersburg State University and Associate Professors at the Department of the Theory and History of International Relations at the same university.

The authors of this article aimed at looking at the legacy of President Obama about the war against terrorism. According to this article, for more than fifteen years since the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) after its enactment, the Taliban has been removed from the authority but had not yet been eliminated. AUMF through the leadership of President Obama managed to kill Osama Bin Laden who was a senior leader of Al Qaeda. The AUMF remained the principal legal foundation through United States domestic law for the president to use force against and ensuring that there is the detention of the terrorist's members. The authors of this article are the professors of law at both Harvard and Duke Universities, therefore this implies that they understand this concept. The conclusion made by the authors is that the 2014 presidential extension of the AUMF to help in covering military operations against the Islamic State is at higher chances of making the AUMF be the main legal foundation for the American utilization of the force in the future. The study is important to the topic since it reveals the achievement of President Obama through the use of the AUMF to fight against terrorism and managing to kill Osama Bin Laden. Through the use of the AUMF as the basis for the principal legal foundation under the domestic law, President Barack Obama managed to kill the top leader of the Al Qaeda group.
