Marketing Planning Process

The marketing planning process plays a significant role in managing sporting events. Remember, most sporting events are designed to generate revenue. In order to generate revenue, you must be able to successfully market the sporting event properly. The marketing planning process involves seven stages identified below:

1. Organizational goals 2. Internal an external analysis 3. Marketing goals 4. Market selection 5. Marketing strategy 6. Organization and implementation 7. Control The marketing planning process involves implementing the marketing mix of product, place, price, and promotion. Sports events need to produce a quality product so it is attractive to consumers. The location and facility have to be good and state of the art in most cases so people will want to attend. Ticket pricing is always a factor in determining quality attendance. Promotional strategies are utilized to attract customers.

The marketing of sporting events is an important part of the event planning process. Proper marketing can impact a variety of areas such as ticket sales, concessions and parking revenue, sponsorship, and the sale of licensed merchandise. Please do some research and share some of the most effective marketing techniques used to promote sports events.

Depending on what level of sports you're interested in (youth, high school, college, pro) how could you use some of the ideas you located at your respective institution? What modifications would be needed, if any, to accomplish this?
