The Community Health Improvement Process
The Community Health Improvement Process (CHIP) refers to a framework for an efficient building process of community health. Various factors impact the community members’ well-being and health. Various individuals and entities play various roles to respond to the health requirements in a community (Pennel et al., 2016). For the effective process of developing community health improvement programs, organizations should consider various factors. The planning process can only be effective if factors such as social and political perspectives, health concerns, competing needs, and resources and capacities are put into consideration.
When planning for community health improvement, various steps are involved. These include redefining community health, identification of key performance areas, assembling the coalition of stakeholders, reviewing community capacities and health indicators, and creating the implementation plan. The general planning process involves coming up with a model for planning and solution to a given health need (Marshall et al., 2014). For this assignment, I choose the social-ecological model, which assist in the development of practical solutions to mitigate the effects of conditions and other problems in the community or improve on an underlying solution. The model is essential since it considers the individual, and the various affiliations they have to people and their communities at large.
The planning process involves gathering adequate data and information and other inputs from the community members. Usually, involving concerned people ensures that they can easily view the plan’s entirety. The planning may require the community stakeholders to select a few priority health issues for the community (Pennel et al., 2016). The priorities help in focusing on the important issues to work on as a region or organization. This is done while aiming at achieving the best health for the community members. While planning, the strategies are identified depending on the effects they have on the majority of residents (Marshall et al., 2014). For the final implementation to be appealing, the made plans by the organizations must be merged through collaboration across various sectors. This involves incorporating diverse perspectives and complementary expertise into the needs assessment process. Sharing the techniques is essential in effective leverage of the regulatory opportunities that need to be met.
Completing the planning process is vital since individuals and organizations can get comprehensive information about the issues, needs, and health status of a given community. As a result, it helps in developing a plan for community health development since the information justify how and where to allocate the resources to meet the underlying community needs. Also, planning assists in improving community and organization’s collaboration and coordination. Thus, organizations should always be positive and plan the best for their respective communities, to mitigate the health issues.
