Sexual Assaults in Adolescents

One of the most contrasted and hotly contested topics is sexual assault among the adolescents. Therefore, sexual assaults among the adolescents remains a serious problem globally. Research reveals that adolescents aged between 10 and 13 years suffer from sexual related assaults in the United States (Silva et al. 2010). Therefore, more efforts should be geared towards addressing these issues to shelter children from sexual abuse implications. The paper discusses sexual assaults cases in adolescents.

Sexual Abuse and Adolescent’s Self-esteem

Sexual abuse remains a global reality and has implications on adolescence. Okunlola et al. (2020) synthesizes data making a summation to percentages to determines the relationship between sexual abuse among adolescents and their self-esteem. Sexual abuse causes the adolescents to grow up with low self-esteem (Okunlola et al. 2020). Therefore, sexual abuse results have disadvantaged many adolescents.

Reasons Why Sexual Assaults Are Not Reported

Sexual abuse among adolescents is rarely reported due to fear. Most survivors fail to report sexual abuse because of fear and do not see the benefit of saying it (Dordulian Law Group, 2020). Therefore, panic is the underlying reason why sexual assaults are not reported to police.

Emotional Effects of Sexual Assault on Adolescent

There is a relationship between sexual assault and emotional suffering. The article's author observes that approximately 63% of sexual assault cases are not reported to the police. Most sexual assault victims get affected emotionally therefore, they may suffer stress and depression. Therefore, failure to report sex abuse cases have implications on children’s metal health.

The Vulnerability of Pregnancy of Sexual Abused Children

Most pregnancies among the adolescents results from sexual abuse. Silva et al (2020) observed that 1.3% of pregnancy cases between children aged 10 and 13 are prompted by sexual assault. Additionally, Silva et al (2020) carry out a quantitative study that yields credible data. Therefore, the vulnerability of sexual assault-related pregnancies is increasing due to abuse.

Conclusively, sexual abuse among the adolescents remains a serious topic globally. Research has revealed that most children suffer depression due to sexual abuse. There is a relationship between sexual abuse and low self-esteem among adolescents. Lastly, most cases are never reported due to fear. Therefore, the government should tailor mechanisms of handling sexual abuse among adolescents.
