STAT 535 WS5

We have 2 more weeks in the course.  You will be adding the last analysis to your papers using the Chi-Square technique. You will also be adding the summary section in workshop 6.  Start trying to update the Table of Contents for all the pages you have added.  Also make sure your references page is up to date and in APA 7th edition style.

There are a host of resources to help you in Week 5.

· Video on Chi-Square analysis

· Remediation video on Chi-Square analysis

· An Excel file template for Chi-Square analysis (Chi-Square 10 by 10.xlsx)

· WS5 practice file

· WS5-2 Pivot tables

You may earn up to 190 points in Week 5.

The Chi-Square analysis takes as input a table of counts.  You summarize by using a pivot table or doing it manually. For instance, if you have customers that go to your hotel chain and you want to know if they would ever come back you could analyze a summary table of Hotel A and Hotel B by if the customer chooses to come back Yes or No.  The below example shows that Hotel A is doing better but it is statistically significant.  That is where Chi-Square comes in.  It hypothesizes that the hotels are not different.  If the sample is much different than that assumption, reject H0.  The analysis calculates for you with the provided template what the counts would be under the H0 assumption and also the differences in counts between actual and expected counts.  If large enough of a difference, the Chi-Square statistic gets bigger and ultimately you reject H0.

Come Back?    Hotel A    Hotel B Yes                     50             23           No                      16             35
