Social Institutions
Social institutions have been created by man from social relationships in society to meet such basic needs as stability, law and order, and clearly defined roles of authority and decision making. Every organization is dependent upon certain recognized and established set of rules, traditions and usages. Social institutions are recognized and accepted by society and govern the relations between individuals and groups. Three social institutions I chose were: Family, education and religion.
Starting with family, because that is the most important to me and also it is the most basic social institution in society. It is a huge system of organized relationships involving workable and dependable ways of meeting basic social needs. Family is based on structure and residence. Family is very meaningful and big to me because they’re literally my biggest supporters. The number one people in my life that I know for sure won’t go anywhere.
Education would be next, the process of socialization. Like family education plays a pretty big important role in my life as well. Education helps to develop knowledge, skill, attitude and understanding of the people, and strive to make them competent members of the society. It widens the mental horizon of the people and make them receptive to new ideas. Education is important to everyone in society. Without education you are not able to read, write, talk, etc.. Some people take education further than others but in reality we all need/ go through some form of education within their lifetime. I feel like early education at least is beneficial to everyone.
Last but not least would be religion, which is also said to be the belief in supernatural. It constitutes a set of beliefs regarding the ultimate power in the universe, the ideal and proper pattern of behavior and ceremonial ways to expressing these beliefs. Religion provides a means by which individuals can face crisis and ups and downs in life with strength and fortitude. Growing up religion was also a major factor in my life. My parents made sure that every Sunday we were in the house of the lord, praising and worshiping his name. I remember being younger and not understanding why we had to go every Sunday, faithfully. If I would’ve known what I know now back then, I definitely would have paid attention more and not taking it for granted, or not seeing it as ‘important’. Through the years though I was able to learn to love church. Going to church, getting ready for church, anything that had to do with church I was all in. I love going to church now, but with COVID things are not how the used to be so seating is limited and you have to get there at a decent time to get a seat in the foyer.
