** Week Five: Facility Planning—Floor Plan, Part 3

This week you will complete your floor plan by incorporating additional elements, such as IT equipment and creative healing elements. It is important to review your facility and consider any additional changes based on the knowledge you have gained throughout the course.

· Other elements:

· IT equipment

· Creative healing environment ideas

Write a 350- to 700-word response to the following:

· Describe technology, equipment, and design elements you would use to support the sustainability of your facility in the future.

· Explain how designing a community-based sustainable health care facility will address the needs of the community demographics of your facility.

· Imagine this facility was a renovation of an existing structure and describe what you would have done differently while planning your facility.

· Describe successes and challenges during your facility design.

· Describe successes experienced while designing your facility.

· Describe challenges experienced while designing your facility.

· Describe what you would do differently to address your challenges.

Cite at least 2 peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar references.

PART2

You and your team have been assigned to manage a renovation project from an old warehouse to a medical office building. You have been asked to manage one of the internal environmental impacts, such as hazardous waste management, fire and safety management, disaster management, security management, or ADA guidelines, in the newly renovated building.

The discussion of the cross-functional team members reveals their concern regarding topics like how to handle fire safety or hazardous waste at the newly renovated facility. The internal stakeholders, including the director of facilities and human resources manager, are interested specifically in the ADA guidelines.

Note: The term environmental does not relate to the outside environment such as trees and animals.

As a team, research the standard operating procedures for the areas listed below and select an area that you will incorporate into the renovation of the warehouse into the medical office building.

Select one of the following areas to use in your facility and presentation:

· Hazardous waste management

· Fire and safety management

· Disaster management

· Security management

· ADA guidelines

Create a 12- to 15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation for one of the selected areas in the renovation of your facility. Your presentation should:

· Explain how the five project management process groups would be applied to the planning, design, and construction so as to incorporate the area you selected above.

· Explain the local, state, and federal legal and regulatory requirements for the area you selected. Consider the following agencies:

· Occupational Safety and Health Administration

· Joint Commission

· Your state’s health planning and development agency

· Department of Health and Human Services

· Explain the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that will be used in your renovated facility.

· Consider the stakeholders that may play a role in the SOPs.

· Detail the steps in an implementation plan (Gantt chart) for the area selected based on the five project management process groups.

· Explain budget planning and cost estimates for incorporating the area you selected into the renovated facility.

Cite at least 5 peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar references.

Format your citations according to APA guidelines. Include a title page, detailed speaker notes, and a references page.

MY PART IS: Explain how the five project management process groups would be applied to the planning, design, and construction so as to incorporate the area you selected above.

*COMPLETE 2 Slides only with pic and detail speaker notes. (More info in notes than the slides)

PART3

Write a 175- to 265-word response to the following:

· What strategies can be used to ensure sustainable health care facilities are designed? Provide an example.

Respond to Classmates:

Response 1

I think one of the biggest strategies in ensuring a sustainable health care facility is planning and education. Building or renovating a facility to make sure it can best serve the community will take tons of planning and follow up. Going over budget, running behind on renovations, and running into unexpected obstacles is all part of facility design, but good planning can help prevent most of that. Education is important for the success of all employees as well as management. This can help ensure all technology is up to date and the most beneficial for patients, including software and medical equipment. I also think planning can help with workflow and happiness of employees, which will help with quality care and motivated employees. Another important strategy is community outreach. This can help welcome the community and get them in the doors and keep them coming back. If the people in the community feel that the healthcare facility is really invested in their well-being, they are much more likely to come back in the future. I think these three things play a big role in the sustainability of a facility.

Response 2

There are many strategies that can be in place before a healthcare facility is designed. Of course planning is essential because there is where project mangers discuss everything about the organization as a whole and what their goals are, location, size, budget, etc. I believe that budget planning is one of the most important aspects for facilities to obtain in order to be sustainable. Not only do you need money to build the infrastructure, but there has to be a plan for maintenance and repairs as well as upgrades to ensure patient safety. This all must be thought out well before the facility starts to be built. The healthcare industry is rapidly growing and offering many new technology advancements, so for a facility to be successful, they will need to have the most up to date technology to offer to their patients. Another aspect to think about is return on investment for stakeholders and the healthcare organization as a whole. At the end of the day, healthcare facilities are still a business and it's important to plan and make sure this can happen.
