After reading this week's material answer the following question, AND respond to one of your classmates:
In what ways are you a cyborg? How do your interactions with technology (including the fact that you are taking this class fully online) create or inhance the degree to which you are cybernetic?
I need you help me write a discussion and respond to my classmate
My classmate’s discussion:
In the strictest sense I am not a cyborg, as I don’t have mechanical or electronic items implanted in my body like someone with an artificial heart or prosthetic limb does. I am a close second though in that I have my cell phone with me almost constantly. Like most people it has become the easiest way to communicate with others and get information instantly. Phones are really just very portable, powerful computers. Bluetooth accessories like earbuds and smart glasses have gotten rid of wires that tethered us for so long. It seems to me the next step of a neural interface directly to our brain is close. My reliance on my phone and laptop is even more obvious with the Covid-19 closings. Taking all my classes online makes me feel like my computer is attached to me. My internship this summer has become virtual, so I will be interacting exclusively through electronic means. I find it almost easier to get information electronically as I can review a video for parts I did not understand. I can also immediately search other sources to clarify confusing points. This quick access to information makes me better informed and I make better decisions with more complete knowledge. Being dependent on technology will only increase. Future progress to make this quicker and easier will definitely push us fully into the world of cyborgs.
