I Have a Degree in Journalism: Now What?

Your degree can lead you to a variety of opportunities for you. However, in order to pursue any opportunity, you must be prepared to share your interests, experiences, and qualifications with others. For this Career Outlook, you will write and record an elevator speech, create a cover letter, and put together an application package for one of the following: a job or graduate school.

For this Career Outlook assignment, students must

· Identify a job or graduate program,to which they would like to apply.

· Create a video in which they present a one-minute elevator speech using the Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. .

· Compose a one page cover letter applying to their selected job or graduate program.

· Explain next steps to complete their application for a job or graduate program in a 250 word essay.

The Career Outlook Assignment

· Must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. .

· Must include a separate title page with the following:

· Title of paper

· Student’s name

· Course name and number

· Instructor’s name

· Date submitted

In order to complete this assignment, you will use a platform called Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. . Please review the Screencast-O-Matic Quick-Start Guide (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. instructions in order to get started. This guide will familiarize you with this tool.

All submissions require an upload of the video to the classroom. Submission of a link to a video does not fulfill the submission requirements.
