Good evening,

Sarraf is a young man who had just that had recently acquired his BSW and has been tasked to lead a parenting group at a headstart. He utilizes a few different CBT or cognitive and behavioral theories (Langer and Lietz, 2014). Not only was Sarraf modeling the type of interaction he wished the group to acquire but he was also using his words to restructure Brenda's thought process to reassure her (Langer and Lietz, 2014). This is called a type of modeling. Brenda had shown concerns and never did Sarraf pretend to be anything more than what he was and he also was adamant that he knew he did not have children of his own so couldn't possibly have the same experiences as someone else that had been in her shoes. This type of modeling, in my opinion is similar to "honesty is the best policy". He was not putting on any airs, he was just being calm and rational to allay fears.

The CSWE core competencies exhibited here seem to be (1) identifying as a professional social worker and conducting oneself as such and (4) engage diversity and difference in practice (Dale and Smith, 2013). I feel these competencies best match because Sarraf could have easily chosen to be a bit "know it all" when he entered his new job but he wasn't. He was very professional and courteous. He also listened to Brenda and potentially adjusted his verbalizations to make her more comfortable.
