GENERAL COMMENTS

Instructor

Kimberley, thank you for completing the Week 4 Rhetorical Analysis essay. Please review my comment markups within your document for suggestions that may help you with future writing projects. Thanks for your work on this! Professor Gonzalez

Comment 1

This is a run-on sentence. Plus, you don't have an appropriate thesis statement for this project.

Remember that a thesis statement (for this project) should have clearly presented a specific argument regarding the credibility of the Nichols article. Remember that the points that should be discussed throughout the body should be focused on author credibility, claims the author made, and how well the author supported (or didn't support) those claims. See the instructions for complete details.

Comment 2

Make sure each body paragraph begins with a strong, specific topic sentence that directly connects to a proper thesis statement.

Comment 3

Remember that the goal of this activity wasn't to provide a summary/overview of the Nichols piece. Instead, it was to analyze the author, his credentials in relation to the subject matter he wrote about, as well as the specific claims (and claim types) that he made.

Comment 4

As a rule, avoid ending paragraphs with cited information, as you need to discuss, in your own words, all source materials used.

Comment 5

You seem to have two conclusions (this paragraph and the next one, which is actually labeled "conclusion). For short essays like this one, you don't need to label the parts of them.

Comment 6

Remember that the conclusion should begin with a restatement of your thesis argument. The rest of the paragraph should provide a good wrap-up of the main points of your paper.

Comment 7

Try to ensure that each paragraph contains about 5-8 well-developed sentences. This is a good guideline for academic work.

Comment 8
