Week 4 dq2 response 3 445

Raqiyyah Eaves

Hi Class,

Marta appears fearful and anxious as she just made a huge decision that can change the lives of herself and children. She also shows motivation when talking to the social worker. All of this shows characteristics in the Micro level. The people she loves which includes her husband and children would fall under the mezzo level. Although she didn't touch on the basis of social groups or family aside from her husband and children you can see the change as she began to only focus on her children and the support she got from the case manager when she decided to leave her husband. Experiencing verbal and physical abuse from her husband was a transition for Marta which eventually led to another transition when she took the big leap of faith to go get help. There are many people both men and women who go through abuse each year. Due to Marta experiencing abuse this would fall under the macro level. According to (Summers,2015) Macro level focus is on the larger society’s characteristics and the way the person experiences these or the way these are brought to bear on the person’s situation.

Some resources I would recommend would be a women's shelter that she and her children could stay in until they find a better place. Another good resource would be a group of other women who have experienced abuse, this could help her cope and not feel so alone. Some barriers she may face from utilizing these resources would be the fear of getting caught by her husband. She mentioned she was scared to park and had to find the best place due to her husband seeing the car. This can be a problem in regards to finding a shelter or even a job. Another barrier would be the children, she stated that two of them have school. If she takes them out of school until she figures out what to do the schools will be worried and if she takes them to school her husband may go to pick them up so that he can see her again. The social worker and Marta will have to really come up with the best resources for her as her situation is a bit sticky but not impossible.
