Hi Class,
It is very important to know the strengths perspective, knowing this strength perspective is what allows you to better assist the clients wellness. Some of the strengths I notice in Marta is that she is focused on her children more than she is about herself which initially is what drives her to leave her husband. Leaving is a very hard thing to do which is another strength of hers, regardless of the doubtful fear she has on him possibly finding them again she is trying to get help. She has the ability to find another job again with her credentials so that is a goal that can be reached once she is ready. In order to learn a bit more about her I would apply the strength assessment by asking exception-finding questions during the interview process. Exception-finding questions are used to discover the clients successes in relation to their goals (De Jong P, & Miller SD. (1995). When done effectively the client and myself can build solutions once exceptions are brought up. By exploring how the exceptions happen I would be able to understand the client's strengths.
