Experimental Validity
Does alcohol consumption by pregnant women effect the unborn child? This research study can be difficult in various aspects. The internal validity of a study, which, as we learned earlier in this chapter, reflects the degree to which results can be attributed to the independent variables (Malec and Newman, 2013 )In regards to to the internal validity of the study it is important that the study has a high internal validity, this is achieved by using random sampling and having controlled variables. In this study this could happen by conducting a group study and talking with the participants about their alcohol consumption during pregnancy, and the effects it had on their baby. This method can also have low internal validity since the participants can be dishonest in their answers due to them feeling embarrassed and judged harshly by others. we all are aware and know that alcohol consumption while pregnant does affect or harm the unborn baby. However, this is the more least threatening approach to the study. A more complicated or harsher experimental design would require the participants to consume alcohol, this would cause some very serious issues because the unborn child would be put in danger, and it is illegal to do.
