POST 1
Class,
· Share what interested you about the article you selected.
The article I selected is "U.S. Protestants Are Not Defined by Reformation-era Controversies 500 Years Later". I chose this article because I am a Christian and have always known about the Reformation and what it meant. I found it interesting that some are not even aware of what caused the Reformation.
· Describe why the ethical use of information is important.
The ethical use of information is crucial because it allows you to demonstrate your integrity and maintain your academic reputation while also saving you from legal action being taken against you (Winckelmann & Garcia, 2021). Using information unethically can cause you to face legal action and face punishment from your school. Using information unethically will only hurt you, and that is why you must ensure to practice using information correctly.
· Describe two strategies you could apply to ensure the information from the article is used ethically if you were writing an assignment for class or using it in a presentation at work.
One strategy to ensure the information from the article is used correctly is to accurately understand how to cite and give credit to the author. When using the information from a source, you must give credit to the author of that source. Sometimes, it is easy to think that you do not need a citation since you changed a lot of the information into your own words, but this isn't accurate. You will need to cite sources when quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. My next strategy is to continue learning more about copyright laws and intellectual property. If I better understand these concepts, I will know if I am breaking the law or the rules.
· Reflect on the value and ownership of the information in the article.
I believe this information has been created and shared to bring to light that over the years following the Reformation, many believers do not understand what occurred during that time and why. Though people still believe in major Protestant views, they seem to not know where their ideas originated from, which this article can bring to light. The article is suitable for anyone possibly researching the mark left in history from the reformation period or research on Protestant/ Catholic views of religion. The advantage of using this article as a single source to form an opinion is that the research center is non-partisan and non-advocacy, which means they do not affiliate with politics and bias. A disadvantage of only using this single source is that it doesn't allow you to see views another source offers.
POST 2
· Share what interested you about the article you selected. What interested me about the article I read was the topic. It was about the opinions of veterans compared to non veterans on how the withdrawing of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was handled by the government.
· Describe why the ethical use of information is important.
It is important to use information ethically to retain the integrity and value of the information. Giving the proper credits to those who inspired you is crucial to ensure that everyone is credited for their work.
· Describe two strategies you could apply to ensure the information from the article is used ethically if you were writing an assignment for class or using it in a presentation at work.
The first step would be to properly quote and paraphrase the information I am including from any source. The objective would be to ensure that I convey the evidence in a way that it is intended by the original author. The second would be to properly cite my sources. Giving credit to those who inspire us or have done the work to prove a theory is the most ethical thing to do in any situation.
· Reflect on the value and ownership of the information in the article. In your reflection,
· Explain why this information may have been created and shared. What is the value?
· Discuss the advantage and disadvantage of using this single source to form an opinion or make a decision based on what you learned about the Pew Research Center.
This article was created to show that even though soldiers are bound by duty, that doesn't mean they agree with everything that happens. Kim Parker (2021), director of social trends research at Pew Research Center states that "both veterans and non-veterans have a negative view of Biden’s efforts in Afghanistan: 76% of veterans say his administration has done an only fair or poor job, as do 74% of non-veterans." This information is based off of studies conducted by the Pew Research Center. The advantage of using this single source is that it pushes the argument that things need to be handled differently by the government. That the opinions of those who are involved can be very much different than those who are not. The disadvantage is that using research from one source limits your true results. There could be experiments in other places that show completely different results than those who were tested by Pew.
