Victimization

Individuals between 18‐24 have the greatest chance  of becoming victims of crime (Fagin, 2015, p.62).

In 2012, a significant number of persons (44%)  chose not to report their victimization to police.

Situational Characteristics of Victimization

Victimization is more likely to occur in places where  there is a high density of high‐risk social groups.

Who would be considered high‐risk:  Other criminals?  Undocumented immigrants?  Drug addicted?  Homeless?

Generally, victimization rates are higher in urban  areas compared to suburban or rural areas.
