Description |

Supporting Diverse Needs of Students (ie. ELL, gifted, Students with Exceptionalities, etc). |
|
Direct Instruction |
Describe the defining characteristics of each instructional model or strategy. Example (you may NOT use this as your answer for direct instruction): Direct instruction is an instructional model used by the teacher to teach a specific skill, knowledge, or both. It has distinct characteristics: it is skill centered, relies on teacher modeling, and takes place during whole group instruction. The Direct Instruction model follows the "I do, we do, you do" pattern (Estes & Mintz, 2016). |
Include an example of how you would use the instructional model or strategy in your teaching to meet the needs of diverse students. Example (you may NOT use this as your answer for direct instruction): General examples of direct instruction include; classroom lectures, demonstrations or presenting a video ("Direct Instruction," 2013). An example of direct instruction that I could use in my class in order, to meet the diverse needs of my students would be; use varying questions which can be adjusted based on the student's level of experience, interests and preferred method to learning (Estes & Mintz, 2016). |
Explain how the instructional model or strategy supports the diverse needs of students. Example (you may NOT use this as your answer for direct instruction): When using direct instruction, it will be important to support the needs of diverse students this can be accomplished, during direct instruction, by including visuals. For example, if we are discussing the solar system, it will be important to use visuals of the solar system in order, to create engagement. |

Instructional Model/Strategy 1: Place one model/strategy name from above here |
Explanation Explanation of how you would implement the model or strategy to teach the standard and objective from Topic 2. This should be descriptive on how the lesson would look using the teaching strategy- I should be able to visualize what is happening in the classroom. |

Instructional Models/Strategies Analysis
Instructional models apply learning theories to the selection of instructional strategies in a manner that will improve planning and differentiation to aid in student success. Understanding how various teaching models and strategies were designed to better reach students allows teachers to adjust their teaching styles to adapt their classrooms.
For this assignment, complete the 'Instructional Models/Strategies' template. I have provided an example template for this assignment and attached the blank template as well. The example is for reference only, you need to use the blank template to complete your work.
Part 1: Analysis
· Describe the defining characteristics of each instructional model or strategy. Explain the model/strategy as if the reader has never heard about it before. Be specific and clear.
· Include an example of how you would use the instructional model or strategy in your teaching to meet the needs of diverse students. What does it look like in a diverse classroom?
· Explain how the instructional model or strategy supports the diverse needs of students. How does this support meeting diverse needs within the classroom?
All three of these sections should be answered following academic writing guidelines– complete sentences and in text citations.
Part 2: Application
Review the academic standard and learning objective you created in Topic 2. Using the 'Class Profile,' select three of the six instructional models from Part 1 that would be appropriate to teach the standard and objective.
· You are using the SAME standard YOU chose in part 2 of Week 2 - Not the example plan by Larry Lope! This should be a K-8 ELA or Math Standard.
· You are using the Class Profile attached to this post, also available in the syllabus. You need to imagine that this is your class. You are not creating for specific students, but for the class as a whole with their needs in mind. Be specific in your reasoning!
For each model, include the following:
· Explanation of how you would implement the model or strategy to teach the standard and objective from Topic 2. This should be descriptive on how the lesson would look using the teaching strategy- I should be able to visualize what is happening in the classroom.
· Rationale explaining why the instructional model or strategy is effective in supporting student learning of the standard and objective. Why is this strategy appropriate for the students in the class profile? CITE YOUR REFERENCES.
Support your findings with 2-3 scholarly resources. I should see a reference page and in text citations.
GCU format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected. This means complete sentences, and check your spelling and grammar before submission.
This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. This is attached for your convenience.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.
