Overview
The following list are the goals and objectives that form the base for the high level view of the business requirements that follow due to the changes required by this project.
· Meet future security audit requirements
· Meet client security requirements in order to increase revenue from new business
· Replace old laser printers with newer secure pin enabled printers
· Improve employee involvement in the company IT security policies
Business Requirements
· Business Alignment – As part of the company’s efforts into creating new business opportunities with clients and more revenue, the company has decided to align their strategies with how they deal with security. Specifically, the area of concern is the lack of security present surrounding the company’s printers. As such, in order to meet client requirements, newer pin enabled secure printers are required.
· Legislative and Regulatory Alignment – The procurement of these new printers would enable the company to pass stricter security audits as well as national and international privacy and data protection acts as required by different regulatory bodies.
· Data Requirements – The new solution should be able to store a large number of documents in memory and in an encrypted form until the owner of the documents is able to retrieve said documents in a secure manner at the physical printer location.
· Standards Requirements – Interoperability is an important aspect of the solution so that it is able to integrate with existing security controls and policies as well as optional standards such as PKCS#11 to work with the company’s existing Public Key Infrastructure. It must also support the communication standards deployed in the network.
· Functional Requirements – The new secure printers will require at the very least pin access to print the documents supplied by the individual who submitted the print job. It would be nice if the printer had smartcard access as the company is looking into using this in more areas of the company such as with computer access. The printers must also be able to integrate with Active Directory to better manage the large user base that will be accessing the printers. In terms of general functionality, the new printers must provide the same basic functionality as the printers they are replacing such as color printing, different page sizes, faxing, and scanning.
