Hello Dr. Abbs and Class,
The various client population that a social worker may work with is the elderly, children, adults, and the mentally challenged and ill. It is very important for the case worker to have knowledge about the different populations. The social worker will have a better of understanding of why they live , act and thing the way they do. Working in a profession as social worker you will work with all types of ethnicities and must have some knowledge this will help you better help your clients. Knowing the beliefs will give you ideas on what you can and cannot do regarding there cases. The population that i am most concerned in helping are the children that are in school who are faced with poverty. I believe that all children should be able to get a quality education regardless of there socioeconomic status, Sometimes families just need resources and that is where I want to be of service. Working at a lower elementary school I have seen so many children lack and fall behind because there parents don't have the resources. Where I live we call the low performing schools title one schools. They are all failing schools with limited resources and not a lot of parental support. Not to mention there are not many certified teachers at these schools. So if we can help the parents create a better way of life the children will do better in school. Children should not have to worry about food shelter and clothing. I would like to work with the community to get them involved to make a better way for our children.
"No child should be limited by their economic background to access quality education and realize thier potential." (Thabisile Ledwaba)
