Nursing Theory
The research article by Collins et al. (2020) addresses the low rates of advance directive completion among the public focusing on African Americans. Therefore, the researchers employed Leininger’s Culture Care nursing theory; it focuses on the role of nursing care that fits the cultural or ethnic background of the patient (Collins et al., 2020).
The applicability of the theory in the nursing practice is diverse; for example, it can be used in hospice facilities to create a conducive environment for patients. Moreover, it increases nursing awareness considering the diverse nature of the American population. By increasingly being aware of patients cultural diversity, it can also be used in developing social groups in hospice care, thereby reducing the probability of mental disorders such as depression. According to Kozlov et al. (2019), hospice institutions have the highest prevalence rate of depression. Exploiting the parameters of the theory can aid in the reduction of depression in hospice facilities.
