What can we do as a society to improve our future generations diet?
I believe that the best way to guarantee improved diets for the future generations is to offer regulated school breakfast and lunch just as Sam Kass discusses in this weeks TED talk video. A program like this would be a phenomenal way to make sure every child is getting a balanced diet as well as making sure that food insecurity does not put their educations at risk. While many programs like this are available for children of low income families, we should have a program implemented that feeds all of the students in attendance. As for cost, the schools could include it in the cost of tuition for families that are above the set income level, and have the meals free for children of low income families. Having these meals for all of the students will remove the possibility of kids not eating due to food insecurity, eating a poor diet due to the families income, or eating a poor diet because of convenience.
What are some possible solutions to hunger and food insecurity?
After learning about food sovereignty in this weeks videos, I can’t help but feel that this is the best solution to hunger and food insecurity. Having the help of a whole community to ensure that everyone has a full stomach helps a troublesome situation in many ways. Those struggling with food insecurity will not feel alone in their struggle, and they will feel like they have the support f their friends and families. Not knowing when or where your next meal is coming from is a terrifying thought, even more so when you have multiple mouths to feed. Food sovereignty allows everyone who may be struggling, or those who just want to help, to all group together and put fourth their best abilities to feed everyone. Food sovereignty also allows you to know when and where your next meal is coming from. Growing food, donating extra crops, and implementing school meal programs are just a few ways that we could help to reduce hunger and food insecurity.
Why is there hunger and food insecurity in the United States?
Hunger and food insecurity occur in the United States because many individuals and families are living at the poverty line. According to author Katherine Alaimo, as many as 36 million individuals, children and adults, have been identified as living with food insecurities. Another 10 million more have been reported as experiencing hunger (Alaimo, abstract). So many are living at this level because the have suffered a lose in one aspect or another of their daily lifestyles, such as unemployment. Others experience hunger and food insecurity because they are not paid a livable wage and find themselves unable to make ends meet. With such a high rate of low wage jobs, and a high rate of unemployment, many individuals in the United States are struggling to feed themselves and their families.

What can we do as a society to improve our future generations diet?
There are so many ways to improve our future generations health and diet. The main tool we can use is EDUCATION! The global food system will always have an advantage when it comes to its consumer. They use billions of dollars to get the consumer to buy into any snack or meals. We as the adults or educators in this situation must show and teach the younger generation proper way to eat and how to manage sugars/fats. With this generation it is a hit or miss. Some parents feed their kids junk food and sugary drink, so they think it is okay due to them eating what the parents eat. While on the other hand, you have parents that feed their kids, organic or non-GMO foods believing that it is the healthier options and that they will raise their kids in a healthier environment.
What are some possible solutions to hunger and food insecurity?
Food insecurity is a big issue in the world, where people are struggling to find affordable and have access to healthy foods. According to a recent survey, 1 out of 9 people struggle with that same problem of hunger every day. We as the “mother land” for so many outsiders to our country, we shouldn’t have this problem. In the video, it shows people creating gardens with crops that people can afford. Or we can maintain our current process of food banks where it allows the community to get food without making a big scene about it.
Why is there hunger and food insecurity in the United States?
Food insecurity is considered a lack of access to enough food to sustain a healthy supply for all household members of the family. This can happen due to not having enough money to provide or the resources aren’t there. We have a big poverty problem in America where big companies overrule on small companies who try and help the community. When this happens people don’t have anywhere to run to or they struggle to maintain a status that isn’t them. Hunger rates rise when the national or local economy is in a slump. People lose jobs and cannot find work.
