Discussion Question 300 words or more
Week 3 Discussion Question: Must respond with at least 300 words and use a reference. Lesson 3 reading is attached separately FYI.
This week's lesson discussed some well-established ethical theories and their arguments. Consider and comment on the following questions:
1. Which of the ethical theories discussed in this week's lesson is most appealing to you? Are any of the theories morally superior to any of the others? Explain your answers.
2. Respond to the Trolley Problem discussed in this week's lesson. What would you do and why? On which ethical theory would you rely? Would your answer change based on the identities of the people on each side of the switch-track (i.e. your friends and family vs. convicted criminals vs. complete strangers, etc.)? Also, remember that you are not responsible for the circumstances that have imperiled the five people on the track toward which the trolley is initially heading, but if you intervene and switch tracks, then in doing so you make a deliberate choice that ends the life of a person. This is the classic distinction between action and omission, but does this matter in terms of ethics and what you would do?
